The Literacy Pod - Reading Tutoring & ADHD Tutoring

A strong reading foundation shapes everything—from enjoying books as a kid to tackling complex texts in college. That’s why The Literacy Pod offers reading support for students from Kindergarten through 5th grade (I may work with older siblings on a case-by-case basis-just ask). I focus on building the language and comprehension skills students need to feel confident in class and in life. I help them strengthen the basics so they can understand, explore, and engage with the world in a meaningful way.

Whether a student is working on early skills like recognizing letters and sight words or diving into advanced concepts like symbolism and literary analysis, I know how to meet them where they are. The goal is simple: improve comprehension, boost confidence, and help students see real growth in their reading abilities.

About me

Howdy!

Hi! My name is Heather. I have one son named Dominic. He just completed his freshman year at Mays Business School at Texas A&M University. He's a smart cookie, and I am super proud of him.

I have my BFA in Fashion Design and my M.A.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction. I also completed my ACP (Alternative Certification Program) with Texas Teachers.

I worked as a substitute for Houston ISD for one year. The following year, I became teacher of record and taught 7th grade English at Lanier Middle School in Houston, Texas. Lanier is a Vanguard Magnet School. I taught three gifted and talented classes and three on-level classes (non-g/t classes).

After Lanier, I left the district and took some time off from teaching. I went back to teaching a few years later, and taught for a charter school district called Southwest Public Schools a few years later. I taught a small group of girls who were in CPS custody. The school was located in the former Ronald McDonald House near NRG Stadium. The girls lived on-site, and my classroom could not have more than 10 girls in the classroom. I taught girls in grades 3-8.

Around spring break that year, one of my colleagues in our district was transferred to teach at a different school. I was moved to replace him for the remainder of the year. I taught high school students who were in inpatient drug rehab. I worked in a hospital facility. My students were only there for a month at a time while completing treatment, and then discharged after they completed their program.

After school ended that year, I decided to not renew my contract with SW Public Schools. While I miss teaching and working with students, I've decided to work with students in a different capacity.

I believe I have many gifts to offer your child. Please feel free to contact me to see how I can help.
